ipad to imac connection constantly dropping.

I love Actions, so I wish I could get it to work for more than a few minutes before it loses connection between my first gen ipad and my imac (running osx). My wifi signal is fast and strong, so does anyone have any ideas that I could try to sort this problem out?

Hi jbk,

it is very difficult to establish what part in your environment is making the connection constantly dropping, but of course this is not a regular behavior.

We can try to investigate more examining your system and make some supposition.
I would start asking you this:

1 – How frequently you have a connection dropout? after 2 minutes? more frequently?
2 – Does Actions reconnect immediately?
3 – What kind of connection have you chosen in the network panel? is it the automatic connection or the Custom IP?
4 – Does the dropout occur only when you are not sending actions for a while? Or even in moments in which you are actually using Actions?
5 – What iOS and OS version do you have?

If you prefer you also can answer in private mail, as we probably will need more detail about your configuration.

Thank you for taking the time to try and help me out with this.In answer to your questions:

1 – How frequently you have a connection dropout? after 2 minutes? more frequently?

Regarding this question, I recorded the following last night whilst using Actions:

Ten minutes in, the actions icon in the menu bar of my imac is greyed out. I try to do something in the app and it pings up that my mac is disconnected.

Select my mac again in the app and it connects. Icon now blue in the menu bar on my mac.

Another ten minutes in and it disconnects again.

Go back to the app to select my mac and it reconnects.

15 mins later, try something then it disconnects.

Go back to app and reconnect.

10 mins later does it again. Goes on like this the whole time.

As a summary, it seems to disconnect about every ten minutes.

No, I have to manually reconnect it.

3 – What kind of connection have you chosen in the network panel? is it the automatic connection or the Custom IP? Can't answer this at the time of writing because I can't get the Actions server program to load and so there is only one option in the drop down list in the Actions app: that being for a custom IP address. Will have to let you know this if and when Actions Server begins to load again.

4 – Does the dropout occur only when you are not sending actions for a while? Or even in moments in which you are actually using Actions?

5 – What iOS and OS version do you have?

I am running iOS 5.1.1, Mac OSX version 10.7.5.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem but couldn't get the program Actions server to open on my mac tonight. No matter how many times I tried clicking on the icon. Restarted the computer. Still the same... program won't open no matter what I do. The little flash icon in the menu bar stays greyed out.

Update, Actions server finally kicked in whilst I was writing the email above, so I can now answer question 3: I think I am connecting in the Network panel via the automatic option. Thanks.
