I am on an Apogee-run dorm network here in Texas, and I've been having issues with Actions. I have other iPad network apps that can't locate my Mac on the network, so that was to be expected for Actions. But I'm entering the IP address Actions Server is feeding me, and the iPad can't connect. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the network is doing that doesn't allow any of my devices to see each other? (no iTunes WiFi sync, no virtual mouse apps, etc.) I just tried the Safari test, and it's not working.
You say you are in a dorm, therefore in a public network. This is a bad option, as often there are ports blocked or reserved in these networks, preventing your iPad and your apps using these ports from connecting and working properly. Can you talk with the network administrator in order to know what ports are free and try with some specific setting?
Speaking about Actions, if you have a Mac you can try to overcome the dorm network and establish a direct “ad hoc” connection with you computer. In most cases it solves this issue.
Otherwise it seems unlikely that you get your computer and iPad connected, when all other services are not working.
